Allison’s City Observations

August 11, 2007 · 2 Comments

My dear friend frank-n-furter ask for more pictures of rats. As of to date I still have not captured our neighborhood rats in motion, they tend to stay in in dark places and scurry away when they hear someone coming. Mr. Furtur also asked me to write some observations of the city that pop out to me after living in a small town in the Rocky Mountain West. So here we go:

Chronological History of Our Local Drinking Establishment

The History of The Ding Dong Lounge

1660: First cuckoo clock invented by Shlongrich von Ding Dong, Copenhagen, Denmark.

1790: Steve Naidich’s great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-grandmother invents the thong. Burned at stake. Odessa, Russia.

Nov. 1999: Last decent punk rock bar on Lower East Side goes totally yuppie.

Sept. 2000: Homicidal Morningside Heights slumlord informs KKK-baiting downtown comedian Steve Naidich that former video store (read “crack house”) is available immediately for “business opportunity”. Naidich immediately phones retired clothing magnate & notorious whoremonger Bill Nolan. Nolan, upon hearing Naidich’s proposition, tells Naidich to go fuck himself.

Oct. 2000: Local police precinct informs Naidich & Nolan that neighborhood is utterly resistant to gentrification. Delighted, they sign lease.

City Life II

Spending lots of time with our heads embedded inside white books.

For those who may be skiing in Canada (Tony), building a bike shop in Honkeyfish, MT (Craig) or bike racing in California (Amanda) this weekend, I’ll be sure to tip my beer as a salute to your gallant efforts.

The Bicycle Film Festival comes to NYC in about a month. Check out the vid of Tokyo fixed gear riders. Good soundtrack. Lots of cowbell. Hey – cities are fun!

Travel by Numbers – India, Singapore, Malaysia & Thailand

March 8, 2007 · Leave a Comment

From our front door back to our front door we road six buses, boarded eight planes, motored upon ten boats, cruised in 34 cars, sat upon three bicycles,

teetered upon one elephant, haggled five tuk-tuk rides, enjoyed the freedom of two motorcycles, crawled forward on one ox cart and chugged along 20 trains. -Allison

I sold my car and traded it in for a metro card.

Feb 2nd; David and I flew to the Big Apple to start our transfer from quiet Jackson Hole to the not so quiet city of New York. We flew in on a rainy Friday night. We wouldn’t let the rain keep us down and decided that we would celebrate our arrival with some dinner and a couple drinks at a resturant and bar a half a block away from my brother’s house in Brooklyn simply called Bar BQ. My brother pre-warned me about his friend Joy the bartender. His advise: ” plan your escape two to three drinks before you actually want to leave, otherwise she’ll just keep pouring whiskey after whiskey.” I didn’t give this advise much thought. I was a foolish girl and kept agreeing to the wiskey that Joy was serving with her big smile, or should I say snicker. I have no doubt that she was aware of the pain she was indirectly going to cause me the next day when I awoke…

I started in New York with a massive hang over…

Thanks to my brother Mark, our major ‘to do’ that day was to help him move a 96 inch couch three blocks & up the stairs to his apartment. Oh soo much pain!

One week later and our apartment is in hand. Keep reading →
